Web-to-print technology is a fast growing trend
One of the fastest growing trends in marketing these days is web-to-print technology, allowing businesses to take files from the internet and then use them as printed materials. However, some in the print field have raised concerns that the streamlined process has left them out of the loop when it comes to the print process.
Business writer Gerhard van Rooyen says that design companies will still play a major roll in coming up with how a piece of printed material, which may include direct mail, is used. He adds that technology has increased the speed with which an idea can be implemented.
"Agencies get far better speed-to-market using web-to-print than they've ever had before," he wrote in an article for MarketingWeb. "They can be available 24/7. They can consolidate their print job management. They can reduce their overheads, labor costs and - very importantly - it allows for a foolproof quality control process."
