Direct mail: The answer for real estate agents this selling season
Spring and summer are commonly regarded as the most popular times to buy, sell or rent a new home. With warm weather just around the corner for much of the country, more people are thinking about moving. This gives realtors more opportunities to connect with potential buyers and sellers with direct mail.
Vast majority of moves occur during warmer months
Both those who wish to buy a new home and people who want to sell their current residences most frequently do so in the summer. Why is this the case? The first reason relates to the relative ease of moving during this time of the year. It's much less stressful for families to pack up their belongings, load them into moving trucks and transport them in the sunshine than it is in the middle of a snowstorm or freezing weather. It's also more convenient for sellers to show off the finer points of their properties once the weather heats up - backyards, balconies and landscaping look much more appealing on a warm day than they do covered in frost.
Sellers are also more likely to be out and about searching for homes when it's pleasant outside. Cold or snowy days aren't as conducive for home seeking, leading many people to hold off until spring. Research from the U.S. Census Bureau shows that 30 percent of people moved in the summer, between June and August, while another 23 percent moved between March and May. June and August were the most popular months for families to change residence, with 11 and 10 percent of moves occurring during these months, respectively. A mere 7 percent of movers chose to settle in their new home in December, February or March.

How real estate agents can market themselves during selling season
With all the moving happening from March through August, real estate agents will need to be ready to work with new clients to find them the houses of their dreams. However, agents won't have clients to work with if they fail to market themselves to prospective buyers and sellers now with direct mail.
By sending out personalized mail messages, real estate agents can build names for themselves within the community and ensure they're at the top of the list when houses are ready to go on the market. However, to guarantee these messages get to the right people, realtors will need to invest in mailing address software that will get the mail where it needs to go and spread a real estate agent's message.
