USPS troubles unlikely to affect small businesses' direct mail strategies
While talks of United States Postal Service cuts and closures have haunted media reports for the better part of the year, small business owners and users of USPS address validation software may have nothing to fear.
According to Technorati, small business owners should expect no change in delivery times for direct mail. The marketing materials will continue to arrive at consumers' homes and businesses an on a standard three-day delivery schedule.
Instead, the changes most business owners are hearing about refer to programs and practices that have dragged the organization down into debt, such as a mandate requiring the agency to pre-fund retiree benefits for 75 years, Direct Marketing News reports.
"What is changing, hopefully, is that the post office is cutting away a lot of fat and moving toward being a profitable business. The key word there being 'toward,'" Technorati writes.
Small businesses should continue to keep an eye on the USPS, though, as numerous government officials and policy makers have floated measures, such as shortening the delivery week, that could alter direct mail arrivals.
