USPS releases Limited Edition Batman Forever Stamp
Companies interested in using direct mail for distributing information and promotions can now celebrate their love for an American cultural icon: Batman. The U.S. Postal Service recently released a new set of commemorative stamps featuring four different eras that depict the transformation the Caped Crusader has gone through over the years.
With 20 limited edition Forever Stamps in total, there are four rows that show the DC Comics character in his Golden, Silver, Bronze and Modern Age incarnations. The collector's item was released on Oct. 9, 2014 at the New York Comic Con in honor of the 75th anniversary of Batman's entry as the protector of Gotham City.
"The U.S. Postal Service has a long history of celebrating America's icons, from political figures to pop culture's most colorful characters," explained Nagisa Manabe, U.S. Postal Service chief marketing and sales officer.
Batman made his first appearance in DC Comics in 1939, featuring the artwork of Bob Kane and script by Bill Finger. The superhero is distinguished from others in comic books namely in the way that he wasn't born with any super-human abilities, deals with character flaws and fights injustice with ingenuity and technology. In many ways, it's these qualities that make Batman one of the most endearing characters with amazing longevity. The crime fighter has been featured in several comic book incarnations, graphic novels, movies and television productions.
"You've got people who are fans of an icon that collect Batman memorabilia," USPS spokesman Mark Saunders said in Bloomberg Businessweek. "It's a great opportunity to reach out to younger audiences, more people, to make stamps more relevant to everyone."
The release also coincides with National Stamp Collecting Month, which the USPS is hoping will generate greater interest in the memorabilia. In addition to collectors, businesses can include the iconic stamp as part of their direct marketing campaigns, integrating mailing software to accurately deliver messages.
