Print industry faces hard times due to cutbacks
The printing industry was one of the hardest hit by the recession, with many businesses cutting back the amount of dollars spent on paper material.
In a recent article for What They Think, expert William Mitting says that the printing sector felt the slowdown in spending as much as any other industry.
"The recession was a period of exceptional challenge for print companies, as the deepest and longest recession since the Second World War took its toll," said Andrew Brown, public affairs director for the British Printing Industries Federation, as quoted by the news source. "The U.K. economy shrank by more than 6 percent during the recession, and by the end it was some 10 percent smaller than it would have been had growth continued on its previous trend."
Some firms have been able to make progress despite the difficult circumstances, leveraging technology such as web-to-print. The 2012 Premier Print Award brought together many who have been able to innovate effectively.
