Potential USPS price hike highlights need for mailing efficiency
In September, the United States Postal Service board of governors submitted a proposal to the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) that, if implemented, would enact a variety of price increases for mailing services above the typical annual hikes. For companies that use direct mail, this means efficiency and accuracy in their mailing systems is more crucial now than ever.
In a USPS press release, the agency confirmed the new increases would raise prices across the board, including the cost of an individual piece of First-Class mail from 46 cents to 49 cents. By utilizing effective mailing software, companies hoping to streamline direct mailing campaigns can ensure mailings are as efficient and accurate as possible, while also maximizing cost effectiveness.
Furthermore, companies can lessen the impact of impending postal increases by taking advantage of available address correction systems, which help ensure the integrity of addresses for outgoing mail by standardizing, validating and correcting any inaccuracies. This is doubly important as USPS reports there are nearly 47 million change-of-address requests each year.
The PRC is currently reviewing the proposed increases and should rule on the matter before the annual price increases become effective January 26, 2014.
