Middle school science team uses direct mail to raise funds
Direct mail software with address correction is not only helpful in creating materials used for advertising and marketing purposes, but it is also a great tool when it comes to fundraising. According to the Showcase of Fundraising Innovation and Inspiration website, using a direct mail campaign as a way to raise money is both an art and a science.
SOFII writes that in order to make an effort of this kind successful, because it is a form of personal communication, it is important that the materials connect with the recipient on a deeply emotional level. Some of the strategies listed by the organization include developing fundraising materials that invoke a feeling of gratification to the donor's ego, compassion to the cause being presented and sense of duty based on making a difference.
The Reading Advocate, a Massachusetts-based news publication, recently highlighted the story of middle school science Olympiad team that uses direct mail to solicit money from donors that would be used to help travel to and from competitions. And the campaign is certainly not without merit.
According to The Reading Advocate, the A.W. Coolidge Science Olympiad Team will represent the state at the National Science Olympiad which will take place at the University of Central Florida for two days in mid-May. The publication writes that this will be the 21st appearance for the school in the competition.
In addition to an upcoming yard sale, the 26-person team will also rely on the use of direct mail to encourage those who receive the materials to support the students in their competitive endeavors. This shines a light on the value of direct mail, especially when the strategy is used to support such a worthy cause, like student education and enrichment.
