Customers can shine a light on companies
The hype around digital marketing channels such as Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and others may seem impenetrable, but one marketing expert is urging businesses not to retire their address verification software and direct mail strategies so fast.
At a recent forum hosted by the Sales and Marketing Society of the Mid-South and the Greater Memphis Chamber, former syndicated columnist for the Los Angeles Times Jane Applegate told business owners that with the marketing and media trends popping up every few seconds, it's important to get back to the basics, The Commercial Appeal reported.
One of the key tactics all businesses should take, regardless of the medium, is engaging with consumers. This can mean soliciting their opinions, asking them for advice or even making them the focal point of marketing campaigns.
"Shine a light on your customers, perhaps get them to offer videos or photos or written endorsements of your company, and the light will shine back on you," Applegate said, according to the source. "At the end of the day, it's all about word-of-mouth. Whether it's in print or online, encourage customers to promote your brand."
Don't forget to reward them for doing so as well, whether through discounts, coupons or a simple thank you.
