Canada Post stamp celebrates native son and literary giant
On the day Canadian literary hero Robertson Davies would have turned 100 years old, Canada Post released a commemorative stamp, according to the National Post. Businesses wishing to show their customers their affinity for Canadian literature can use the new stamp during their bulk mailing campaigns, which is most effective with the help of mailing software.
The London Free Press indicated Davies was known throughout the world for the cleverness he displayed in his novels, plays and essays. The author received numerous awards throughout his career, including a Booker Prize. Among his 11 novels, his novel The Manticore earned him the Governor General's Literary Award. He was also given the Stephen Leacock Award for Humour for the novel Leaven of Malice.
Lisa Raitt, Canada's minister of transport, told the National Post Davies was a highly esteemed figure both in Canada and around the world, which made him the clear choice for a celebratory stamp. Beyond his work in literature, he also served as editor of Saturday Night magazine and of the Peterborough Examiner. Deepak Chopra, CEO of Canada Post, explained Davies had a lasting impact on the lives of readers and is deserving all the accolades he has been given, including the stamp available at Canada Post facilities throughout the country.
