Canada Post office closings emphasize need for mailing software
Canadians will likely have fewer post office locations in their communities, which in turn may affect businesses. The Regina Leader-Post reported Canada Post has closed 300 post offices during the past five years, leaving a little more than 6,300 postal facilities existing throughout the country. These closures highlight the need for address verification software for businesses conducting direct mail marketing campaigns.
In spite of earning $127 million in revenue during 2012, the postal service anticipates $1 billion in losses by 2020, which is prompting the government organization to look for ways to cut costs. In addition, Canada Post is responding to changes in the way individuals communicate. The Leader-Post stated there has been a significant drop in the number of letters Canadians send.
However, many enterprises still depend on direct mail for business-to-business communication and will need to invest in address validation software to make sure customers and clients receive the appropriate mailings.
In an effort to address the budget cuts, Canada Post is also inviting individuals to consultations, according to CTV News. Jon Hamilton, a spokesperson for Canada Post, told the Canadian news broadcaster the organization is conducting more than 50 consultations across the nation as it attempts to find an adequate response to financial issues.
