Canada Post celebrates national comedic heroes
Canada Post has honored several of the most famous Canucks known for their comedy skills. The mail agency fashioned the "Great Canadian Comedian" series of stamps that feature five of the nation's most notorious laugh-makers: Jim Carrey, Olivier Guimond, Mike Myers, Catherine O'Hara and Martin Short.
Jim Phillips, director of stamp services at Canada Post, explained Canada is home to many of the comedy world's most notorious faces and voices, making this stamp series especially interesting.
"It's super exciting," Phillips explained on the Canadian Broadcasting Company website. "Part of our mandate at Canada Post is to honour Canadian heroes. What better heroes do we have than our comedians, especially our comedians who have made their way south of the border?"
Guimond got his start in Quebec in the theater scene, while also starring in television and radio features. Carrey is well-known for his slapstick antics and uncanny ability to strike facial poses unlike any other. He is famous for his roles in numerous hits, including "The Mask," "Dumb and Dumber" and "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective."
Another star who has made waves in Hollywood is Myers. He first gained renown during his time on "Saturday Night Live," out of which spawned the full-length "Wayne's World" movies. Short is another SNL alum who got his start at Toronto's Second City, a sketch comedy troupe.
Similarly, O'Hara honed her sketch comedy chops at Second City before starring the cult classic "Beetlejuice." She also is remembered for her role in "Home Alone," and has lent her voice to several animated movies, including "The Nightmare Before Christmas" and "Chicken Little."
The commemorative stamps are limited edition, meaning they're gone once they sell out. Organizations that wish to add some comedic flair to their mailings can include these Canada Post items. Meanwhile, it's important to include postal address verification as part of a direct marketing campaign to guarantee accurate delivery.
